LILA’S STORY

Mobi Meals Pty Ltd is a catering business that officially opened its doors in 2012. It is owner run by Lila Mazwi. She is a passionate qualified chef that graduated through
CTIA Chef School and is a member of the South African Chefs Association (SACA). She works with an amazing dedicated team of cooks and drivers.

We operate from the northern suburbs of Johannesburg and service the below areas and their surroundings:
Northgate | Fourways | Randburg | Sandton | Rosebank | Parktown | Kyalami | Sunninghill | Bryanston | Melville | Lonehill | Northcliff

Our freezer-friendly meals are made from fresh ingredients and frozen for your convenience and nutritious option for busy individuals or those looking for a quick meal solution. Our frozen meals ensure better flavor and nutritional content compared to traditional frozen meals that might rely on heavily processed or lower-quality ingredients.

The fresh meals that are prepared are made from fresh, whole ingredients rather than processed or pre-packaged foods. These meals are prepared using ingredients that have not been frozen, canned, or heavily preserved. The idea behind fresh meals is to maximize the nutritional value, flavor, and quality of the food. The health benifits contribute to overall health and well-being due to the higher nutritional content and lower levels of additives, preservatives, and unhealthy fats commonly found in processed foods.

Lila's Story

-Our Founder Lila Mazwi

Lila Mazwi’s story is one of determination, commitment, ingenuity, enthusiasm and love in literally all aspects of her life. It is these qualities, translated into Mobi Meals, that have elevated Lila and her team’s food into the comforting
and delicious home-cooked meals we all enjoy.

Lila Mazwi arrived in Johannesburg in 2003 with nothing more than R50, a backpack and her indomitable personality. Starting out as an assistant domestic worker alongside her aunt, Lila walked kilometres to work each day before she was able to find work as a supermarket packer. Shortly after this, she secured a position as a live-in domestic worker for a family with three young children.
This afforded her security and a private place to study. Four months into her new role, Lila embarked on a remote learning bookkeeping course and,
assisted by her accountant boyfriend (now loving husband and father
to her two children), Lila graduated in 2007.

Committed to developing herself further, Lila accepted a position as the receptionist at a wellness centre in 2008. Within a couple of years, she was wearing many different hats. She was the receptionist, the PA, the
bookkeeper, the marketing manager and the office manager.

Lila, like all successful entrepreneurs, saw a need and met it. Her early work as a domestic worker had both honed her skills in the kitchen and developed within her a real love for cooking. These skills, coupled with the need that she, as a working wife and mother understood, led her to realise the potential value of being able to arrive home after a long day at work to a delicious and wholesome meal. And so Mobi Meals was born, delivering freshly cooked meals on a daily basis. It also catered for large events and company lunches and the rest, as they say, is history……or is it?

This is just the surface of Lila’s incredible journey. It certainly hasn’t been an easy one and few people could have triumphed over the adversity that Lila has faced.

A number of years ago, Lila was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and had to undergo many bouts of immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and radiation together with major surgery. Against all odds, Lila kept running Mobi Meals.  During this time, she graduated as a chef through CTIA Chef School and is currently a member of the South African Chefs Association (SACA). Miraculously, after everything she has been through, her little girl was born just 2 years after her treatments.

Lila and her staff pour love into all aspects of every meal and there is a genuine sense of care for the customer experience that our many returning clients attest to. When you support Mobi Meals you become part of Lila’s success story. A story perhaps best described by this incredible tribute, penned in her honour for Women’s Day:

“Lila Mazwi to us is like the sun. Rising every day to spread warmth and light into our  worlds. She holds many roles in her life and one of those is super woman. Her story is one of struggle and triumph. A story of never giving up. A story of becoming.”
